PD40R V3.0 vs EDC2-DFT: how they differ
Size and weight
The Fenix PD40R V3.0 is the shorter light: 143 mm (5.63 in) against 150 mm (5.91 in), a difference of 7 mm (5%). At its widest point the SureFire EDC2-DFT is 2 mm slimmer (32 vs 34 mm). Weights are published on different bases (Fenix PD40R V3.0: 198 g with battery; SureFire EDC2-DFT: 159 g listed), so they are not directly comparable.
Brightness and throw
The Fenix PD40R V3.0 is rated brighter: 3,000 lm maximum vs 700 lm for the SureFire EDC2-DFT, 329% more. For beam distance the SureFire EDC2-DFT reaches further: 632 m vs 500 m rated throw (26% more).
Battery
The Fenix PD40R V3.0 runs on a removable 21700 battery; the SureFire EDC2-DFT runs on a removable 18650 battery. For scale, a 21700 cell is about 21 × 70 mm and a 18650 about 18 × 65 mm (nominal).
Price
When we checked on Nov 4, 2026, the Fenix PD40R V3.0 was $119.95 at fenixlighting.com and the SureFire EDC2-DFT from $287.00 at batteryjunction.com, so the Fenix PD40R V3.0 cost $167.05 less. Prices change often, so check the current price before you buy.
Type
Both are EDC lights in our catalog with a tube body.
Which should you buy?
Choose the Fenix PD40R V3.0 if you want a shorter light (7 mm shorter) and more output (3,000 lm vs 700 lm). Choose the SureFire EDC2-DFT if you want a slimmer profile (2 mm narrower) and longer throw (632 m vs 500 m). We compare published size, weight, output, throw and battery only, not runtime, interface or build quality.
